Jeanie Duncan

Growing up at the beach, I have always been drawn to the outdoors and the natural rhythms of nature. I’ve also been drawn to the topic of leadership, both as a witness to some amazing leaders and a seeker of personal knowledge and understanding. I have long been fascinated with the characteristics of great leaders, and I am a firm believer that one’s self-awareness is key.

As a seasoned facilitator, speaker, and leadership advocate with over twenty years of sales, communication, and marketing/public relations experience, I help my clients focus on personal self-awareness and group dynamics. By knowing our true selves, we can leverage our strengths to create our best lives. My work with a wide variety of organizations, from small nonprofits to educational institutions to Fortune 200 companies, has inspired me to continually pursue my own growth and development.

My community involvement includes serving on the board of the Children’s Home Society of NC as well as volunteering with the Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro for twenty years including serving as board chair.  Other involvement includes Women’s Professional Forum, the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium, and BW NICE.

As owner and president of Advancing Leadership Consulting, senior consultant with JER HRGroup, and adjunct faculty of Northampton Community College, I am dedicated to strengthening communication, self-awareness, and leadership skills for individuals, teams, and organizations. I received my B.A. in Communications from Wake Forest University and currently live in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania with my husband and daughter. Besides my family, working to empower others, especially women, is my greatest joy!

Two things that fulfill me most in life are the outdoors and adventure – from cycling and trail running to skydiving and sailing. I love the beauty and lessons of nature and activities that take me out of my comfort zone, stretch, and challenge me. It’s where I feel most alive and authentic. It requires flexing, adapting, and tapping into a deep well of wisdom, experience, and natural instinct. It’s amazing what can happen when you call this forth!

Personally, my partner, son, Labrador, and Beagle call North Carolina home. And it’s here that I built a career in the nonprofit arts sector and later began a business, Raven Group, that focuses on consulting and executive coaching in the space of organization change and leadership development. Through this vocation, I also serve in two other roles: lead consultant for Raffa, a national firm focused on sustainability and succession planning, executive transition, and search, and adjunct faculty for the Center for Creative Leadership, a top-ranked, global provider of executive leadership education.

My degree is in Communication Studies and English from UNC–Greensboro, and I hold certifications in non-profit management from Duke University, and executive coaching from Coaches Training Institute, the International Coach Federation, and CRR Global.

Today and over the years, I’ve enjoyed board service experiences that include the Women’s Professional Forum Foundation, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Arts North Carolina, and Americans for the Arts.
